manila bay

I got it! I was able to take pictures of the sunset by Manila Bay last sunday! The sun sets so fast! In less than 2 minutes, the sun disappears under the sea! See it here --> http://photos.yahoo.com/grace_chua_ay

Christmas day

One of my officemates asked me how our family spend Christmas day. Well, at that time, I didn't have a concrete answer. We didn't observe any specific family Christmas tradition such as getting together with the extended family or going to church together or preparing special Christmas dinners. My reply was, "nothing extraordinary, we would just stay home and probably watch tv."

What actually happened was a lot different than that. I can't recall exactly if what we did this year was similar to what the family did last year... no idea.

We spent Christmas day cleaning the house! My mom did the stove first, of course being dutiful children we would rush to shoo her away and start cleaning the stove. Then while we were busy with the task, she would start wiping the electric fans. Seeing that she had disassembled the fans and was taking the blades for thorough dusting, we would quickly finish scrubbing the stove and ask her to sit while we took over cleaning the fans. But she wouldn't stay put, she went after polishing the cupboards instead. She would do the first 1/4 of most of the cleanings and we ended up finishing the tasks. You could just imagine how much we accomplished during the day. The pots and pans were shining, the kitchen was spotless, cupboards were polished, bathroom was gleaming, and her two kids' backs were aching.

Of course, we had a special dinner after that. Nope, she didn't cook, we had take outs.

The Business of Christmas

Baked goodies from Becky's Kitchen have the perfect homemade taste. Their chocolate brownies and Food for the Gods are just right. Lemon Squares are my favorite, but admittedly, they're too sweet. Don't get me started on the rich and creamy cakes, makes me mouth-water already. :P

So yesterday 8:30am, my mom decided to drop by Becky's for a few boxes of brownies to give to her friends for Christmas. After several minutes, she came home empty-handed, saying Becky's ran out of brownies and the entire store is crowded with customers. Note that the bakeshop is open that particular Monday, the shop's rest day. Since the store doesn't allow order reservations, my mom went there again today at 7am. She was shocked to find out that the line at Becky's had spanned 2 blocks!

So she opted to go to Hizon's instead. The bakeshop was not as crowded because their small sized ensaymadas are P50 each and their medium sized basket of pulvoron and pastillas costs P700! I think you can get that for less than P400 at Goldilocks. I think she didn't bought anything there either.

For me, there's actually no need to go out and get me something for Christmas. It's enough for me to know you remembered. An e-card or sms would do. I expect my friends to feel the same way. *kuripot ko tlga!* hehehe... ;)

It's not free to pee!

Urinetown is, by far, the most entertaining and witty musical comedy I've seen. The story revolves around an unusual subject, call of nature, wrapped in a cynical, realistic storyline that bites!

Like Rocky Horror Show, Urinetown solicits audience interaction. But unlike Rocky Horror Show, Urinetown does not have anything to do with alien transvestites or scandalous bi-sexual activities inside horror houses, involving a transvestite alien, of course.

I arrived a few minutes before the start of the show. Got caught up wrestling with the Christmas paper to wrap the gifts for the friends I'm meeting for the musical.

Anyway, we were seated in the orchestra (a first time!), compliments from our batchmate who's part of the Atlantis Production staff.

Urinetown is easy to understand mainly because the conversation between Lil' Sally and Officer Lockstock explains why things are what they are. Why the musical has a stinky name, why the topic wasn't about hydrolics, why it was metaphysical, and why it was not a happy musical...

What I liked most is the Cop Song, who would have thought broadway musicals carry rap music?

The story makes the audience assume that idealistic views always prevail, but the twist forces them to realize otherwise.

Urinetown might have been underrated, it's a shame to note that many are missing the show. The cast even sang a yuletide song as a bonus in the end! Kudos to Atlantis Productions for always bringing the best Broadway Musicals here! :)
